Bootstrap is a computer science literacy curriculum used by 10,000 students in 17 states and five countries whose founders include two Brown CS faculty members, Kathi Fisler (adjunct) and Shriram Krishnamurthi. It's just announced a new partnership to increase the reach of K-12 CS education by providing educators with new ways to teach the subject to students who have historically been underserved.
By joining with Infosys Foundation USA, which aims to bridge the digital divide in America by supporting high quality computer science education and coding skills with a particular focus on underrepresented communities, they're offering qualified applicants full scholarships to CSPdWeek. This new event, co-founded by Bootstrap and Exploring Computer Science, CS Principles, and the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), and supported by the Computer Science Teachers Association and the National Science Foundation, runs from July 18-22 in Denver. It brings together four evidence-based CS curricula with the goal of having a multiplicative effect on CS education in America.
"CSEdWeek has been incredibly successful at bringing high-quality resources to classrooms everywhere," says Emmanuel Schanzer, co-founder of Bootstrap. "Bootstrap is proud to partner with other providers to create a similar week aimed at high-quality PD for teachers from across the country, while focusing strongly on our shared mission of equity, rigor, and research."
