"It's been a fantastic journey," says Professor Andy van Dam of Brown University's Computer Science Department, "to see computer graphics evolve from an arcane technology accessible to a handful of specialists to completely integral to the world's daily consumption and production of information, communication, entertainment and, increasingly, education."
Andy sat down with Leah Hoffman for a wide-ranging interview in the latest issue of Communications of the ACM that addresses his interest in graphics and his contributions to the advancement of the field; his commitment to teaching, particularly undergraduate education; and the latest efforts of his research group to design new user interfaces that go beyond longstanding keyboard-and-mouse methods.
