Tim Kraska Is The Winner Of The University-Wide Early Career Research Achievement Award

Earlier this year, the Office of the Vice President for Research announced an inaugural awards program during the academic year 2016-2017 to recognize outstanding research achievements of Brown faculty. Five awards will be given out annually along with a research stipend of $5,000. All Brown University faculty are eligible, and only one is chosen for each award. This year, two out of the five awards went to members of the Brown University Department of Computer Science.
Tim Kraska is the winner of the Early Career Research Achievement Award. This award goes to a member of the faculty at the Assistant Professor level in recognition of an exemplary portfolio of research achievement during their first years at Brown. Since his start at Brown University, Tim has also received a $3M DARPA, an Airforce Young Investigator award, and a Big Data Spoke award among other grants. In addition, Tim has earned a Sloan Fellowship, contributed to the Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub, and won several best paper/demo awards for his work.
“Tim is an academic entrepreneur in the best sense of the word. He has a great vision and remarkable execution skills, which allows him to spot open challenges and quickly come up with rigorous solutions that advance the state of art and practice,” says professor of computer science and chair Ugur Cetintemel.
