With Friends Like These: Timothy Edgar Writes For Lawfare On The Politics Of The USA Freedom Act

Writing on the topic of surveillance reform in Lawfare, Timothy Edgar, a Visiting Fellow at the Watson Institute, again proves himself one of the few scholars able to consistently pierce the bubble of political rhetoric for the benefit of the layperson.
"[Rand] Paul’s machinations have no chance of causing the Patriot Act to permanently expire," he explains. "They could, however, kill meaningful surveillance reform. Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell also opposes the USA Freedom Act, claiming to be a friend of the NSA...McConnell has no chance of preserving bulk collection permanently, but he could easily create a highly dangerous period of legal uncertainty."
