John Savage Joins Boston Global Forum's Board Of Thinkers And Works To Combat Cyberattacks In Vietnam

2016 continues to be a busy year for Professor John Savage of Brown University's Department of Computer Science (Brown CS), who has presented recommendations for securing cyberspace to the government of Japan, addressed the Boston Global Forum on the G7 cybersecurity agenda, received a nanotechnology patent, and participated in the Munich Security Conference.
Most recently, he's continued his association with the Boston Global Forum (BGF) by becoming part of their Board of Thinkers, a group of twenty-three thought leaders from academia, government, and the private sector that includes co-founder of the MIT Media Lab, Nicholas Negroponte, and security technologist, Bruce Schneier. Serving as an advisory board, the Board of Thinkers helps determine the BGF's topic of the year for discussion, reviews input from Members, Contributors, and other sources, and proposes solutions.
Partnering with Allan M. Cytryn of Risk Masters International, he also authored BGF's Action Plan to Block Cyberattacks in Vietnam, which recommended a series of short-term and long-term actions and was presented to the government of Vietnam. The ultimate goals of the actions are to:
- Ensure that the appropriate international agencies are fully engaged in addressing this issue and its longer-term implications;
- Operationally address the issue immediately and restore reliable, safe operations for air travel, and
- More broadly enhance Vietnam’s cyber-resilience so that it is less vulnerable to such incidents.
