Brown CS faculty member Serena Booth has been named a 2025 Azrieli Global Scholar for the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), an honor that recognizes outstanding early-career researchers from around the world. This award will support Serena’s work in human-AI interaction and AI policy​, connecting her with a global network of scientists as she develops new approaches for AI systems that better align with human values. As part of this recognition, Serena will receive $100,000 CAD in unrestricted research support to advance her work.

This year’s recipient of CRA's Anita Borg Early Career Award is Adriana Schulz of the University of Washington, who joins Brown CS as Associate Professor this fall. Adriana has been recognized for her outstanding research in computer graphics and her commitment to broadening participation in computing.

We’re leaving Brown together—you’re graduating, I’m retiring. Most of you started in 2021 (wearing masks). I started teaching at Brown in 1976 (maskless but with darker and longer hair), before there was a CS department. Most of you have spent four years here; I’ve spent my entire professional career at Brown.
