None

Following a strong year of research, Professor Eli Upfal of Brown University's Department of Computer Science (Brown CS) has just been honored in another area: service to Brown. Yesterday, he received the President’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Governance, which was established by President Simmons in 2007-08 to celebrate faculty contributions, past and/or present, to the university through service on faculty committees and advisory boards.

In particular, the Awards Subcommittee noted Eli's service on the Advisory Committee on Corporate Responsibility in Investment Policies (which considers issues of ethical and moral responsibility in Brown's investment policies), the Academic Priorities Committee (which provides oversight of academic programs and is responsible for making recommendations to the president concerning the growth and allocation of resources in support of education and research), and the University Resources Committee (which is responsible for recommending the annual operating and capital budget to the president).
