Brown University's Department of Computer Science (Brown CS) is proud to note that with Assistant Professor Tim Kraska's recent win, our faculty have earned a total of eight Sloan Research Fellowships. This is the fourth year in a row of Brown CS receiving the honor:

• this year, Tim won the award for democratizing data science by enabling a broader range of users to unfold the potential of their data through the development of a new generation of algorithms and systems for interactive and sustainable data-driven discovery
• in 2016, Assistant Professor Stefanie Tellex won the award for developing robotic systems that better perceive and act in the world around them, and that are that are better able to interpret and execute commands from human collaborators
• in 2015, Assistant Professor James Hays (now at Georgia Institute of Technology) won the award for utilizing data and global crowdsourcing to build tools that affect how we create images and make use of the data they hold
• in 2014, Assistant Professor Paul Valiant won the award for using the concepts and structures of information processing as broader investigative tools, discovering what computers can tell us about complicated problems in other sciences
